MS365 is AzureAD which can be used for a variety of things, it's Intune, it's Sharepoint Online if you want that, it's MS Teams, it's Exchange Online, it's Office Online. Do you already have Exchange or sharepoint on-prem? Thinking of going hybrid or just moving all to online? Then there is something to be said for an easier transition. I just broadly think Exchange is the better of the two. But you can definitely use Gmail in an organization. Is the goal email mainly? Well, I think Exchange is a more robust system. Workspace is not better than MS at everything. A lot of users will end up not doing it correctly unless you provide documentation or they just keep fumbling with it until they figure it out.īut again, what is the end goal? The problem with this conversation is that it's too big of a conversation. It's clunky as hell and you pretty much have to know how to do it in order to do it correctly. And the actual act of sharing through OneDrive is not intuitive to people. In Google Drive, you can just transfer ownership with a few clicks, the links and permissions stay intact. In doing so, all new links will be created and all sharing settings will be lost. All you can do is open up access to it, then somebody can go download the files, then reupload them to their OneDrive. You can't transfer ownership of files if somebody leaves. onedrive licks dirty donkey balls compared to Google Drive imo. But it doesn't do the sharing/collaboration aspect as well as Google and it doesn't do the functionality aspect as well as the desktop apps of the same name. So far, Office Online lacks features of office desktop, and it lacks collaboration/sharing ease and functionality of Google docs. one of the most simplistic things? Throughout the training, the list of what you couldn't do Online and had to "use the desktop app" to do grew. "oh, there's no version history in powerpoint online, you'd have to be using the desktop version for that.". "I can't find version history in PowerPoint. Shit, the last time I was at MS where they trained some people on Office Online. They don't have all of the same features. If that is the primary goal, then I'd go down on the Google hill all day every day.Ī lot of people think "Office Online" is an online version of the office desktop apps they're familiar with. I'd rather flick my ear really hard in really cold weather than use Office to collaborate over Google. I also think it's important to consider your own end-goal. it was horrible a few years ago, but it's slightly improved. So first and foremost, in just objectively talking about them (not the "why"), Gsuite does feel more coherent than M365 in some ways. For the powershell connectors, some times you use -userprincipalname, sometimes you use something completely different and enter the exact same value. Some of them have fields/places for values that the others do not. Sometimes the same value has a completely different field name. The fields in those profiles are sometimes duplicated field name to value. All with their own admin centers that can be vastly different in look and feel, with their own development teams that seemingly don't interact, all with inconsistent consistencies.Ī user will have a mailbox profile, sharepoint profile, and azureAD profile. People should stop talking about it like it's a thing. We have both and I can talk about it from that perspective.įirst, M365 is not a thing. That said, we don't use Workspace over M365. And sometimes these are more business decisions and not technical decisions. I think most people here are going to be on the technical side of things. New items are added approximately every quarter, when launched features are removed from the list. Learn about the publicly announced products and features planned for Google Workspace (G Suite).
